Qatar Foundation's research
strengths are organized around core platforms of Health, Energy,
Information and Communication Technologies, Environmental Sciences
and Multidisciplinary research supported by enabling technologies
such as Nanotechnology.
Biomedicine & Biotechnology:
The aim of biomedical research is to take Qatar from the current
academic understanding of medicine to imparting new scientific
knowledge that revolutionizes conventional clinical practice and
therefore making possible the potentials of personalized and
predictive care for the Qatari society. This is achieved by bringing
academic health sciences, such as genomics and proteomics, closer to
hospital practice and delivery while raising the standards of
medical care in the country.

Energy & Environmental :
The goal of energy research planning is to ensure that the country
is able to meet its growth demands for energy consumption due to
economic developments while protecting the environment of Qatar by
supplying cleaner and safer energy consistently. This field overlaps
with the application and use of biotechnology techniques.
The environment is part of Qatar’s identity relating to its
wonderful oases, desert ecology, ocean life, natural gas and date
palms. For this reason, the research in environment aims:
-
To preserve the natural environment of Qatar for
future livings of our children
-
To address all physical, chemical and biological
factors external to a person and the related factors impacting
the well-being of humans
-
To ensure the environmental sustainability of
both natural and build environment in Qatar
Computational Sciences:
The aim of computational sciences research is to provide support and
data analysis for the information provided from various research
fields. Research and development in the core field of computational
science is also a focus area of research in order to advance
software and data analysis including those in healthcare, ecology
and energy.
Each proposed theme in the areas of research focus overlaps with the
other themes creating a foreseen multidisciplinary research
environment, expanding and diversifying in the future.
Multidisciplinary Research and Enabling Technology :
This is the focus area where promising or new technologies
strengthen research in other area. A good example is the use of
applied nanotechnology from various fields. There are promising
results in the use of nanotechnology for applications in
multidisciplinary fields such as medicine, energy and ecology.
Through research in revolutionary fields of nanotechnology,
scientists are able to control matter at the atomic and molecular
level to take theory to dynamic applications. |
